In 1970, a rock ‘n’ roll trio with the handle of Riley, named after its leader Riley Watkins, recorded an album called Grandma’s Roadhouse with the help of future country music legend Gary Stewart. Only 500 copies of these hand stamped DIY records were pressed at the time – a few made it out into the world, the rest remained cloistered in the attics and basements of the participants and their families.
- From the liner notes by Michael Simmons (MOJO, LA WEEKLY, HUFFINGTON POST)

Mark Linn, the archeologist responsible for unearthing Kris Kristofferson’s early publishing demos (Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends - The Publishing Demos 1968-72, Light In The Attic), and Love’s 1971 CBS sessions, (Love Lost - Sundazed) is reissuing this lost masterpiece of grease on Delmore Recordings with 3 extra songs discovered in one of those attics (also on vinyl, w/ mp3 download of all 13 tracks).  The record is a country-fried-rock hybrid recorded off the clock at the legendary Bradley’s Barn studio, five years before Gary Stewart became King Of The Honky Tonks with songs like “She’s Acting Single, I’m Drinking Doubles.” Gary wrote four of the songs, sings lead vocals on the amazing “Drinkin’ Them Squeezins”, and “Love, Love You Lady”, and plays guitar, piano, and sings the highest high lonesome harmonies on everything else.  Riley the man wrote and sang lead vocals on the majority of the songs in a gravelly blue eyed soul croon, while Riley the band rocks and harmonizes all over them.  Nashville wasn’t looking for a Nashville version of Crazy Horse, Moby Grape, or Louie and The Lovers at the time (though maybe Owen Bradley was looking for a Nashville version of CCR), so the record didn’t get picked up and never had a life of it’s own… until now!
